Cool, glad you go it straightened out, but you might want to think about the watermark idea for the future though, cause if it can happen once, it will happen again.
At least a watermark will deter quite a few people.

I underatsand why it's necessary, but it detracts from the picture's quality when you have the watermark over the middle of the picture. I think we'll hold off on the watermark until it becomes a REAL problem (if we find 1 theft every week)... until then, we'll just try to stay on top of it.

Ebay emailed me with a "you should take this up with a copyright attorney" stance. Why couldn't they just close the auction? They're freakin' idiots. Why should I have to go out of MY way to police THEIR clients?
Steve from FK emailed me with the seller's response... basically "oops... I didn't know they were a company's pics... they were 'emailed to me'". BS!
I'm beginning to hate ebay a little more each day. Too many liars and cheats and rip-off artists up there. I DO know there are legitimate businesses up there (SWK being one) and I don't want to take ANYTHING away from them, but a few rotten apples ruin the barrel for me.

Well, certainly a fine bit of copywriting....but in the end, just the same Torro-poo response their Pay Pal folks gave me, "We're too busy."
Hopefully, the individual responses from X Marks members have made him realize there's no future in hijacking pics.

I'm right there with you. eBay is a mess.
Most of my (thankfully few) customer "issues" are usually from eBay sales, and eBay gouges me more on fees every year. It will eventually not be worth the bother. I could have taken my family on a very nice vacation with the fees I paid them last year.
I pity anyone who totally relies on eBay to make a living.

As well as water marks, you can get your image program to put extra copyright info in the EXIF header. If people use them as-is (which is likely on Ebay), it won't take much searching to see that.
The other thing you could do is what is called Referrer checking (talk to your webmaster). That will stop people linking to your pics, though I suspect that was not the problem this time.
Wade.
