So I brought the wife in here to look at the tweed suit. I explained to her that this is the fellow who made my Henderson weathered kilt. She thought the kilt suit was nice... but raised her eyebrows, waived at Mr. Newsome, said "Hiiiii" and scurried off giggling.

    Hmmm.

    Elegant. Very nice.

As authentic as that is though, I hope you don't my saying so, but I agree with the post elsewhere in this thread that we're bordering on just wee tad bit too much tweed there.

I like this a bit better.

The suggestion of the blue vest would also work. Or maybe just some noisy hose would shake up all that monochromatic tweed.

Having said all that, is this something we might expect to see marketed at the Gift Shop perhaps?

When I ordered this tweed for myself, that was my intention, yes. However, I have since been informed that the Harris Tweed industry is in a bit of a quandry lately. It seems that late last year a company (based in England no less!) bought the mill on Harris that produces all the yarn used in Harris Tweed. Their intent (as I understand it), is to use the yarns in their own line of tweed clothing. It is unclear to me whether or not the traditional Harris Tweed hand weavers will contiue to have access to this yarn, or if not, what they will do to continue their livlihood.

Since I cannot be confident of the continued availability of the cloth, I can't add this product line to our gift shop offerings at this point. However, be on the lookout for a *very similar* offering made from a medium weight worsted wool in the near future.

That beign said, if anyone is interested in a Harris tweed suit (or just a Harris tweed kilt) please contact me. I'll let you know what patterns are available, and I would need to confirm with the weaver if I can still get the cloth, and we can go from there. I'm more than happy to work with people one on one for these kinds of special projects.

Looks great. The more I see of the box pleated kilts the more I like them.

You know, I have a few pairs of Harris tweed walking trews that I found were just the most wonderful material.
I think that I might just have to get a tweed kilt, now.
    You really do look wonderful.

    Very Nice, Matt!

I like idea of solid colored vest or even a simple polo shirt would look great with that tweed kilt.

First of all I have to say that all three pieces are stunning. Just beautiful.

At first I thought, similar to others here, that it might look better broken by a solid color vest. My eye seems to be drawn down to the hose and legs by the mass of similar colored material. But what crossed my mind was a posting Matt had done some time ago in his blog about a gentleman whom mixed patterns, I believe they were tweeds, to a wonderful effect. I wondered if this would not be a similar case. If you could mix and match to a greater effect. While writing this last paragraph, it crossed my mind that when you wear a tartan vest with a tartan kilt, turn the tartan for the vest on the bias for contrast. Maybe something like that would work here.

Sorry to be long winded here, but I LOVE the look of tweed kilts and plan to get one in the future and want a head start on planning how to wear it.
