I would tend to think it would not look right, too much a contrast of styles.
That being said, I am not a strict traditionalist and sometimes you can successfully blend things from different styles. Also, you are the one who would have to wear it, so if you're comfortable with it, that's all that counts.

Wearing a bowler with a kilt would be like wearing a Cheyenne war-bonnet with a kimono....

Maybe so, but people should do what makes them happy. I wear a kilt and a cowboy hat fairly regularly, and I get some pretty weird looks, but that's ok. I don't mind.

Try it in the mirror. If you like it, go with it. I usually wear a driving cap (gray) or a ball cap. Finding the right hat can be difficult. I've seen alot of recommendations for Tilleys. Not my style, though. Good luck!

I wonder how many of those that speak against the Bowler would like that style with any clothing?

Like wearing the Kilt, your choice of headgear is a personal one. If you want to wear a Bowler and feel good with it ....then DO IT!!! Dont listen to the KILT Police!!
Express yourself how You want TOO!!!

See my earlier posts; I prefer a bowler with a double-breasted pin-stripe suit.
