Sorry I couldn't get away from the field to come up where the tents were and meet up with ya'll.

If anyone is interested, this is my recap of the Heavy Athletics...

I worked the athletics all day, (a twelve hour shift in the sun) so I was unable to go see the bands, tents or vendors at all.

Review of the athletics: Two groups, the first were the Invitational athletes (A Group), and the second were the amateurs(B Group). The B group was so large that it had to be separated into two sections of 9 men each.

The Invitational Athletes went up against a caber that weight in over 130lbs. They were amazing, particularly Burt Sorin who walked away with most of the gold for the day.

Most impressive though, was in the B group. For all you guys who look at the men throwing cabers, hammers and weights and say you can't do that for whatever reason, I want you to keep this in mind. There was an 83 year old man out competing in the G-games. (He turns 84 next week) Yes, you heard me right, 83 and he did rather well.

Glenn King took most of the gold, and Billy Wallace was on his heels with the silver. (Billy is opening a new restaurant in Wallhalla soon called Oconee Belles that we will have to have a kilt night at)

Aside from dodging out of the way of one caber I faired well for the day with no other close calls. I was depleted, tired and a bit put off by how certain things were done by the event staff but enjoyed the athletics portion and had an overall great day.
