Beat that!
Not when Kirk has been distracted by Lapis Lazuli and Lorelei Lee (wearing what they usually wear at home on Tertius) on his viewscreen! Always know your enemy's weakness.

Seriously though, I'm surprised that with as much as Roddenberry stole Heinlein's stuff, he never thought to use some of the more fun ideas. Like the whole n-space navigational problems that crop up in several of Heinlein's novels.

I'd still back any ship with a Burroughs continua device. I mean c'mon, Gay Deceiver managed to elude the entire Galactic Patrol when they were in that universe. And don't underestimate Hilda. Any woman who can intimidate Lazarus Long is obviously a force to be reckoned with.

I posted this clever remark earlier today in a different thread. I went back over there to lift it and put it here where it belongs, In yer ear.

Now, as for the fight b'tween a Starship an' anothr ship carrying far superior armaments, I can say this,
"Gentlemen, y'd be on yer best mindset to go at it aganst m' own Captain James Tiberius Kirk. Regardless of yer ship's class an' tonnage."
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

What?! None of you have mentioned the Defiant?! The only warship the Federation made. You're slacking.

The Prometheus was a warship, too, and the New Orleans class was a frigate, so probably primarily a warship.

If you want to get really picky, there's also the TOS Saladin class destroyer and Federation class dreadnought, Franz Joseph's old designs from the 70s which gained technical canonocity when they appeared on readouts on the bridge of the Enterprise in "The Wrath of Kahn."

Not to mention the fact that the future Enterprise in All Good Things was based on the Federation class dreadnaught.

Until a whiny hotrod with a plot device...I mean Matrix of Leadership shows up.

I love The Transformers, too, but I have to admit, there are a lot of gaping plot holes.

    Just gotta let it ride...

I had forgotten almost everything about that movie until my 6 year old rented it last month before we went and saw the new version. Plot holes is an understatement, but it's a cartoon.

So how about this one: Unicron V. Death Star.

The Death Star has the Giant Honkin' Unidirectional Space Gun (tm)(r)(c)(etc.), but Unicron eats planets for breakfast. And lunch. And afternoon tea. And dinner. And if he gets hungry around midnight he eats a planet.

A size comparison would be meaningless, becase size shift around more in the Transformers than the size of the USS Defiant. And there seems to be some debate over the exact size of the various Death Stars.

I think if Unicron got within range he'd make a snack out of the Death Star. But if the Death Star was facing the right direction and they got off a couple good shots, they might just destroy Unicron. Remove even the toughest stain. Satisfaction garanteed. Or your money back.

    Cheers,
    Nick
