I have a lot of information now. Armed and dangerous so to say. There is a local lady who makes clothes, and she made me a nice shirt and pants, but I have heard that, "a kilt is not clothes, go to a kilt maker." Not that a kilt isn't clothing, but that you need to get it made by a kilt maker. On the other hand, she is an awesome tailor lady.

I found a lot of information on the links you have sent me, I feel much more informed now.

I had my mother measure my waist, and it's a 29, not a thirty, man I am skinny. Time to drink the protien shakes!

I have no tartan shop closeby, or even if we have one in Flroida? There is a shop that comes to the faire yearly, but I'm not sure I want to buy a kilt from them... As I said, I do have a tailor lady. As to the length, I think it will need to be 23 inches, if you are supposed to kneel, measure from your belly button to the floor and subtract an inch, as the Scottish Tartan museum article said.

I raise a big pint of Scottish ale to you lads(Black Douglass, to be exact) for all the help and big welcome.

If you REALLY want your local lady to make your kilt you could always pick up a copy of "The art of kiltmaking" and let her graduate from a simple clothing maker to a kilt maker
