I keep a pair of trousers at the kilt shop for those times when I have to change a light bulb. Ladders and kilts right over where the ladies are sewing is a no-no.
I did it once while not thinking.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Hey RiverKilt, sun poncho is a good idea. Now that I think about it the belted plaid is a perfect garment for one of... "Those" resorts.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Whilst I'm not full-time kilted (YET!), I have yet to wear my kilt for sleeping. My dear Stringy tells me that its uncomfortable to sleep unbifurcated. Anyone sleep in kilts?
Not in a kilt. mess up the pleats. I've always had a 'wedgie' problem with pajamas; Most uncomfortable. Then, I had a light church robe made (an Alb) but was too short, couldn't return it. I tried it as a 'night shirt' perfect!! In (sweaty) summer I do like in the Tropics & tuck a small pillow between the thighs. Indonesians call it a "Dutch Wife" (?)

I always heard that rule to be "nude when practical, clothed when necessary." And I won't go into more detail because that would be TMI.
To the original question, I don't have enough kilts to go full-time kilted. Should I get there in life, would probably still wear cycling shorts when riding for performance, as the kilt would add too much aerodynamic drag.
As for standing on ladders, well, there is a Utilikilt Mockumercial that addresses the very topic. If folks can't deal, they don't have to look up.

Surfing, boogie boarding, skydiving( only because a blown up Kilt might obscure your vision) Rock climbing ( the harness would ruin the swing of the Kilt)

Aye, you have some good points, there! I miss climbing...I may return to the sport this year, if time permits.

After I started wearing kilts, I bought a couple of nightshirts. Was surprised how readily available they are. My first was a flannel from JC Penny's (on sale now for $12.99) I find them to be generally comfortable, but they do tend to bunch up when I sleeping.

I wouldn't wear a kilt to the following:
Working out in the gym
swimming
snowboarding
running
renovation projects
For me each of those activities has the proper gear to wear. My kilts have their purpose and their place in my waredrobe, but they don't have exclusivity over my waredrobe. I am a big believer in having th eproper gear for each situation.

Sorry Rex, I wore mine to a comedy club on my birthday.

Done golf kilted too... The greens keeper said he has seen quite a few outfits, but this is the first time I've seen a kilt.
