He's, err, just checking that the gig line is straight?
Right.
I used to play in a band where the DM would do that to new guys for their first St. Patrick's day parade. He used a dental mirror, though.

I cannot attest to the truth of the mirror legend, But I have re-pressed dozens of military kilts.
I can tell you without a shadow of a smile on my face. Some of those kilts are disgusting! The front is so stained that I never open one when my seamstress ladies are in the room. I only did that once and two of the ladies got sick.
The kilts that are owned by the regiment and loaned to soldiers are the worst.
There is no way I would allow my good wool kilts to become subjected to that mess.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Seems to me that you defeat the purpose of an unbifurated garment by wearing constrictive underwear under the kilt. I find that even loose fitting boxers tend to ride up or bind! Nuf said!

kilt checks...
Why not go straight to the source, and ask our own Nervous Jock, since he is a serving member of the TA?

Yuck! That's just gross!
I hope nobody is reading this after breakfast, but.... you have been warned.
There is a famous story about the immortal Alex Duthart, drum sergeant of Shotts & Dykehead, and one of the late, great, leading figures of pipe band drumming, if not THE leading figure. When Shotts still competed in No. 1 dress, Alex had the need to use the wee hoose before going out at the worlds. Unfortunately, he wasn't too careful sitting down, and, ahem, "fouled" his plaid. And then had to play.
I wonder if they burned the thing afterwards?!
Could be an old wives tale for all I know, but it certainly provides yet another reason to wear civilian dress in competition!
