Welcome!
Welcome to the Rabble, and once more congratulations on making your first kilt. As a new member myself I havent quite grasped the depth and bredth of knowledge and experience to be found among this bunch. Just rambling through old posts more exposure to great ideas and advise than I can grasp at one time. I have'nt really found a good challenging question to put to the resident sages yet, but I am looking, <ebil grin>.
Enjoy wearing your kilt, as we all do, and welcome abourd.
** ponders silently, does wollen tweed come in a paisley pattern? ANd if it did.......????***

Masking Tape here is that made of paper. Painters use it.
It doesnot let any sticky residues on the cotton or canvas. And you must to remove the tape just before touch the presser foot. By that time it do it job. Stop the sewing, takeoff the tape, continue sewing.
And Don't Ironing the tape.

another alternative to masking tape
have any of you tried waxed freezer wrap? It is an old quilters trick. Trace pattern on paper side of freezer wrap, iron on fabric, cut out, peel off.
It works for holding down stubborn seams. I just stitch through it, then peel off.

and the wax does NOT stay on the fabric
