Kilted Soldier Print

So far as any research I have found or paid for, the 71st left very few records, and a lot is based on what others wore, or stories. Don Troiani did a famous print with a Pte. of the 71st wearing trews made from his kilt.

I've corresponded with Troiani on few occasions over the years (concerning mainly Ame. Civil War). He has a very extensive collection of historical notes, diaries, etc. The research he does regarding his subjects is amazing. Most often he'll take years before putting brush to canvas. I (& a large number of other ACW students) wish he'd publish his notes, especially concerning the ACW. He can even tell you what color horse a given officer was riding at a given battle on a given day/hour!?
I'd like to see his notes regarding his 71st creation.

He was wounded, and sent to serve with the Royal Garrison Btn. in Bermudia. I have copys of his discharge papers, and he took a land grant here in Nova Scotia, founding my home town.

The earliest copies of anything I managed to obtain thus far are my 5th great grandfather's (Scobee) muster in the Kentucky mounted militia during the War of 1812.

Actually Tarleton is one of my favorite "characters" from the conflict.

The problem with all of these, like I pointed out earlier is that artists tend to make things "better", adding this or that, and just making what was apear grander, and larger than life and how they think it should look.

I also had a 5th (or was he 6th?) Great-Grandfather at the battle of King's Mountain. He was Swiss, a friend of Sevier's & fought under his command there.

I have a friend over in the Indian Dept (http://www.csmid.com/) who owns a replicated Ferguson rifle.

Oh, Todd I almost forgot... you & Frank might find this of interest, it regards the Tarleton character from the film "The Patriot". Two of my comrades from the Brigade (of the American Revolution) were reenactor coordinators (one Crown, the other Patriot) for the film (as also many of my BAR comrades were extras) and when they saw the "Tavington" uniform they mentioned to the costume designer that what he was wearing was a War of 1812 jacket design & breeches, to which she snapped:
"I have an oscar! You don't tell me my job!"
(she had just won the oscar for 'Titanic').

Oh well, we can't win them all

"The Patriot", I avoided watching that film for years. I did get around to watching it, and what a joke. So much was wrong... but with mel at the helm, how did that happen?! LMAO!!!!! Here is a link to a place that does badge recreations, and where a got a copy of the 71st Highlander badge (just a box badge really, but many still claim it is the bonnet badge).

I don't know about the 71st, but the 84th did have a documented bonnet badge just like that, only with an 84 on it (of course ). I've heard alot of arguments about that one, some also tried to claim the 84th one was also a box badge, but I've seen the documentation that it was worn on the bonnet.
I've always wondered if in the case of the 84th if it was supplied as a box badge but the regiment decided to wear it on the bonnet instead
