What kind of error did you see, when you tried to upload from your local box? Was it a file size error? If you could try that again for me and report back here with the specific error mesage, I would appreciate it.
Cynthia, go ahead and try to upload an image. Be aware the image must be smaller than .5 MB. If the image is larger than that, it will need to be resized with something like IrfanView.
I would appreciate it if we can use this thread to identify specific problems and that will help me narrow down what needs to be done. Thanks!

I just gave it a shot; tried to upload a .jpg directly from my hard drive, and this is the error message:
"Sorry, thescot: Bad File - No File or File is too Large or of the Wrong MIME Type"
It's a similar photo I uploaded from photobucket, just includes SouthernScot and another friend.

OK, I'm betting the file is too large. Check the file size and see if it is over 512000 bytes.
Did you just change avatars, BTW? EDIT - DUH, if I had read ALL of your post, I would have seen that bit.
OK, we posted at the same time.
Check the file on your hard drive and verify its size.

Mike, sorry I was replying to your original PM instead of posting here to keep everything together on this thread. I'll try to reply here instead from now on instead of PM's.
Christo13 logged in (he's working from home, so I can't bother him too much today) and posted a photo without any problems to the Me In My Kilt album.
His biggest concern is flooding that album with too many in a series. For example, his kilted in the snow photos we took yesterday. I think he was wanting to create an album to group his photos together so someone could skip those and not wade through them if they weren't interested in viewing those photos. He was able to create an album, but he was unable to actually upload anything into it (I don't think we saw that as an option to upload into his album that he'd created, only the already-existing ones).
I guess what I'm asking is are we only supposed to be uploading photos into one of the already-existing albums/categories? Is that correct?
Thanks so much for your help.

Well, the size on disk is 316 KB (323,584 bytes), well below the 512k. And it loaded OK as an avatar from the disk, but it wouldn't load from Photobucket.
On the other hand, the original picture I tried to upload to the album was about 1.2 megs, so it was quite large. However, that's the one I uploaded from Photobucket with no problem.

I expect that most of us, when we resize an original photo, do so by pixels but when there is a size limit as here it's also important to check the resultant file size.
Different pictures with the same pixellation will still end up with different file sizes and also the orientation can make a huge difference.
As no doubt can the program used to resize.
Oh by the way, photobucket warns you that it will resize the photo if it's too large when you upload a photo there so it will be a smaller file on their servers then.

I don't now is this helps any, but I just changed my avatar using a file form my hard drive.
But it wouldn't allow me to use the same photo from photobucket saying that the remote file was too large!

It works just fine now.
It works just fine now. In fact, this is far better than the previous way. Load my pictures to my thumb drive take them to work, etc.. and post away.
