Now wait... these are wool trews we're talking about, right? If I were to get tartan trews of some sort, I would think that I would want them to be wool.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

OK...I have another question...What is a Tank? How is it referred to in context with CERTAIN kilts?

Trews are high waisted because they are cut in the style of the 19th C when they were introduced as military wear. Civilian and military fashions often mirror each other and trews reflect that. They are made to be worn with suspenders (braces) and a vest as well as were all the trousers from that period. The style is progression from the old fall front type. Modern day pants and slacks are cut to be worn at the hips whereas these are to worn higher, just about under the short ribs. It's too early to go into a long dissertation about mens fashions but it is a fascinating subject.
Here is a photo of my band with a member wearing trews as formal attire. They are modern military surplus but are right on for the 1850's. (He scored them for cheap money at a thrift store and we hate him for it! )

I don't remember the tartan but it is one of the "regiments".
Oh yeah, the well dressed couple in the center right are not part of the band!

I never said that
"To quote one of Ron's relatives from another thread, Ms. Priscilla Mullins, "Why don't you speak for yourself, John Alden?"
I have yet to feel a need to speak in this thread , but GGGGGrandma was right
Trews are cool but I could never pull them off [figuratively if not literally]. I have enough trouble coordinating Khakis and button down shirts .

Gordon Highlanders? Possibly (it's a little dark, on my monitor)?

I was thinking Mackenzie (Seaforth) or Leslie (KOSB).

What color is the light stripe? It appears to be a Black Watch based tartan, from what I can tell. On my screen, the light line appears white, which should make it a Forbes tartan. Though I may be wrong on the colours.

And refering to your initial post you will have no problem betting a decent kilt that fits you but you probably want to avaoid the mil surplus route.
