as a member of the jury (or called to be impanelled) you can bet too that you'd probably be dismissed by one of the lawyers. Like it or not, wearing a kilt is seen by the general establishment as being a bit odd. lawyers don't want to bet their case on someone which the establishment thinks is 'a bit odd'. In some cases, one side might find that desirable, which makes it a darn sure thing that the other lawyer is going to dismiss.
really? i will remember this when i get summoned for jury duty, wooot!

The bottom line is that you're there, and we're not. It's easy to say "screw the grade point average," when you don't have to live with the consequences. Personally, I think you'll be fine with wearing the jacket and tie with the tartan kilt, based on what you've reported of your conversation. However, again, I don't have to live with the consequences if I'm wrong.
I think the plan of action you've outlined, dressing in the kilt, checking with the teacher, and being prepared to change into trousers if he doesn't like it, is the best plan of action.

So I walked in today, with my Irish National SWK standard. wearing a tie and dress shirt. along with a tweed jacket. he looked at me and laughed. said that he had expected it out of me and that I needed to change. so I went and changed into my $6.99 bargin-bin khaki pants. I walked in and he stopped me and said that he was sorry. He had thought alot about what had been said, and since there are no laws dictating what a person can or can't wear that I can wear my kilt if I feel so inclined to. so I put it back on. and I sat on the jury. the trial (nothing like what I was used to with mock trials) lasted 45minutes including the voir dire... I remember back in the 8th grade sitting through 2 weeks of in-class trial. it was SUPER dumbed down.
and as for my GPA, I have currently got a 3.986 cumulative. I am ranked at 119 of 748. and I received a 100% in the trial because I was the lead juryman I lead the debate and read the deliberation back to the court.
He told me after class that he has had problems in past years where kids start laughing and you can't hear whats happening and it just gets bad. he also appologised to me.
I'd say win in my book.
oh and I rarely ever go at anything with a "screw him" attitude. that NEVER works.

I'm glad he apologized to you. From what I'd gotten out of your original post, I found the biggest offense was how he spoke to you regarding the kilt and why you wore it. Sometimes we have to do things we don't like, but things can always be stated with more maturity and civility.
It sounds like this teacher has issues controlling the class/students... which isn't your problem, but his.

Well I am a lawyer and wear a kilt in the real court, so what would be wrong with a juror in a mock court wearing a presentable kilt.
Heavyweight black wool kilt from The Kilt Shop, Galashiels. The black jacket which just peeps out from the court gown is a standard Argyle jacket.
I am glad you received an apology and were allowed to wear your kilt.

That is great news Casey, I'm glad you put your best foot forward, and held your head up high, good for you, I know this took guts to go through with.

That's good. Wait, so you never changed back into your kilt? You never said anything of it, or maybe I overlooked it.
That's definitely a win!
