    Hehe... and so it begins.

Here's a picture that comes a little closer (but still not all the way there) to what the true colours are:

    Ryan,
That video was hilarious. Well done.

I've got two hunks of fabric that will be turned into Kingussie kilts as soon as school's out; MacDonnell of Glengarry weathered in 16 oz. wool and some 3-color desert camo.

Very nice, RR. It's no wonder I couldn't recognize the tartan, then. What do you call it?

    Haha, thanks.

I'm a very creative man, so I call it the Ryan O. Ross tartan. I wanted to go with that just to make sure I didn't get into any sticky sittuations with any clan organizations or what have you.

...among some of my buddies, it's also known as the "Generalissimo" tartan, but that's a long story.

I'm in the middle of making a Kingussie style in desert camo to use for hiking this summer.
Using seven yards, pleating one inch wide and four inches deep.
Still undecided if i want to add side pockets, because im not really to fond of pockets, but it might be good for hiking and camping. My only thought is if you carry something in them they might rub my sides raw.
Very pleased so far as to how its turning out.

Will put in some pics when ever i find time to finish it.

That's the thing about the Kingussie pleat: If you use more than about 5 yards, you have to make the center box pleat really wide, to accommodate all of the cloth needed; you'll notice that my center pleat is quite wide, for just that reason... the problem goes away, however, if you use a solid colour (or camo print) cloth.

I'll look forward to seeing your pics, after you complete the project.

Dreadbelly, who no longer posts here, has been taking classes to become a tailor / fashion designer. Recently, he's been thinking a lot about this pleating style, and his comments on it make a lot of sense... essentially, he says that it may be the most practical pleating style from the perspective of ease of sitting. As you sit, the pleats push each other up, against your legs, leading (in theory) to a nice seat, rather than the bunching that some of us experience, particularly in an automobile.

And I'm sure I'm not doing his thoughts justice, as he's a deep thinker, and I'm just spouting off from memory.

Anyway, he's talking about producing kilts in that pleat style, real soon now.
