Hello and a warm Celtic from Boston, Massachusetts.
Think of your Utilikilt as cargo shorts on steroids. Go about your activities as you would wearing cargo shorts. Hardly anyone will notice, and those that do, will look on it favourably if you are comfortable in it. Enjoy this forum, and check out the various threads on the wearing of the kilt.

"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I would suggest that you wear the kilt to a super market. If you can, have a friend follow you in and report on the activities of the people that you pass. You will soon find that almost all of the reactions are positive.

Welcome from Colorado!
Once you get your courage up, wear the kilt like you mean it. Be confident and hold your head high. If you look uncomfortable or nervous in it, that's when you will attract negative attention. If you wear it like you own it, it's not an issue. After a while, you'll not feel that wearing the kilt is unusual at all. Your improved comfort and confidence will just build and build with increased wearing. Some like to start small (i.e. at a grocery store), but you can always just jump in and do it.

A 1,000 Welcomes! If you're not far from Lenexa, go visit the J. Higgins store there (www.jhiggins.net) and maybe they can hook you up. Keep your eye on X Marks The Scot and you might find a compatriot or two for a monthly kilt night.
