I know...I didn't mean to imply that it changed anything regarding the status of the Chief of the Gunns, just that he had been invited to the council.
Apologies,

Thanks for helping me divert this thread back to its original purpose. I was afraid my question might go ignored...

Many Wilsons are not Scottish, but English!
Also, the Wilson tartan is associated with the immediate family of Wilson's of Bannockburn. However, I am sure that, as the owners of a woolen mill, they would have been happy to sell lengths of Wilson tartan to anyone, even Wilsons from England!

Not yet. I suppose a contributing reason may be that the members who do subscribe to full access to the TA database for legitimate professional reasons are too busy making all those kilts! Or that my question just wasn't interesting enough...

Or that people that save to spend $$$$ on kilts can't/don't want to spend 50 bucks to that website.
Or perhaps if you sign up they make you agree not to talk about what's inside.

Ah, but of course. Still, if someone came out and explicitly told me they were unable to help me because of that, I'd happily clam up and accept it. It's the not knowing that's puzzling. Ah well.
I have enough candidate tartans to consider anyway, and more time to think about it than money ready to spend!

Here's a thought: why don't you drop Brian Wilton, the STA's Director, an e-mail with your query? Brian is a good egg.
