Kilt was received yesterday. Today I called him and paid off my balance. This is now behind me and I have learned a valuable lesson---listen to the X-Markers--order from our wonderful, reliable sponsors. The end.

Once again he unfurls the banner, "You can have any two of price, quality, or service."

Is this a great board or what? Warnings such as this will save many other's the same experience if they check out vendors on the board before ordering.

Sadly, most of us learn the hard way which vendors we can trust....though this board has saved us all a lot of grief by sharing not just results of the ordering experience, but more importantly, owner's attitudes - that is core.

I followed X marker advice and ordered my first kilt from SWK last night. It was shipped today - now that's service! When I'm ready for a family tartan kilt, I probably will avoid SY!

WOW! Scotland Yard is not too far from me. All the times I've dealt with them, they have been great. Hmmm . . I wonder if he's allowed the Kentucky Renfaire to "occupy" all of his time, to the point where it has overwhelmed him?? Still, that's not good for business. I'm glad to hear you finally received it.

I had a similar situation, minus the credit card issue. I ordered a kilt from Tartan Web (well, actually their Scottishkilts.net site) and, I was given one date but, when I called to ask a question about the kilt, I was told it would be another month. To me, I didn't care if it took 9 months. I didn't have a time restraint to receive it in. But, I still understand your frustration. Its not the issue of "time", it was the rudeness on the phone.

If you need me too, I could ride down and throw a bag of poo on his door  . .

I'm sorry for the issues you had with SY.

In actuality, it is not The Scotland Yard at the KY Ren Faire, so that's not it (I cannot speak to the timeliness of the RenFaire's Vendor list, but I assure you that The Scotland Yard was not there in 2008, nor will they be in the future). I am curious as to how he planned to have a kilt made and shipped in that amount of time in the first place if it was coming from Scotland.

I would suggest at least calling your credit card company and seeing what they suggest regarding the $70 - if that $70 was used for shipping and was not instead used to bring down your outstanding kilt balance. If you did not OK that additional shipping charge, I don't think he can charge you for it.

The Scotland Yard is now a one-man shop? Strange times.

While I didn't make it to the ren fest, SY is listed as a vendor, and their shop is only about 15 miles from the fest.

Have to say I'm extremely surprised to hear this. My latest two kilts, the IOS and the black, have both come from Scottishkilts.net and I was very happy with, not only the speed at which they got the kilts to me but also the polite, considerate and helpful manner in which I was treated in my phone conversations with them. I for one could not reccommend them highly enough.

Now, I didn't say I was displeased with my kilt, nor their customer service. In fact, I'm actually VERY happy about my kilt. And, John and everyone else I had dealt with with Tartan Web/Scottishkilts were absolutely awesome. I will probably order again from them.

It was just being told one date, initially then, given another date after about a month (one month had been added). I thought that was somewhat odd. But honestly, I didn't care as, I didn't have a time restraint so, I told John "whenever". Now, I wasn't at all upset about it. I was just "anxiously" awaiting its arrival. Which, when it did, I left work early to pick it up form my wife's work.
