But it does illustrate the fact that his kilt is tartan, not solid. There was another one posted that, even though B&W, clearly shows the tartan pattern.

Oh I know I posted that one originally. I just meant that the "colour" photo you were referencing had dubious origins.

Oh dear, I didn't mean to post duplicates. Terribly sorry. I think I can only keep up with maybe 2% of the posts here these days. But yes, the larger version does indeed show it to be a tartan. I should have paid closer attention.
And Glen, I see you earlier found the same cache of photos. This must be it, the beginning of the fall... I'm slipping...

Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

I have to admit, I love this photo. I think many people forget that nobility and royalty are people deep down as well, and you can see that here.

No worries Rex, this has been a very enjoyable thread as well, and most are photos I did not see when I was over there.

The Chief of Clan Cameron, past and present, is known locally simply as "Locheil". Their titles and military rank are not mentioned, it is considered as bad form(in a nice kind way) if you do. It is a very highland way of doing things and if you happen to meet him in the street he answers to the name, Donald, as they have for centuries.

Rex:
Even if the PIQ (photo in question) was not a tweed, you DO need a tweed kilt eventually. Mine isn't from Rocky, but from Matt---nonetheless, it is a special treasure, and "as differenter as different can get." (In a good way.)

I can relate to Captain Fletcher and his lawn mower.

Now in this case, as Captian Fletcher was a serving officer when the picture was taken, his rank was correctly used. I don't know how it works in other parts of the world ,but in the UK it was(is?) not unusual for officers above a certain rank, if they chose, to use their rank as a "title" in civilian life. Not in Locheil's case though.
