And split diamonds, no less! Those are rockin' hose (nice looking kilt, too).
Usually an argyle or tartan pattern is knitted flat and seamed up the back. Sometimes the leg is done flat, and then the foot in the round, to avoid having a seam in the sole of the stocking. However, it can be done in the round.
I aspire to learn this, but have only reached the 2 color simulation of dicing (using two strands of yarn).

All these hose are awesome. The skill at knitting you folks have is truly incredible. I wish I could do that. I'll really have to give it a try sometime. When I do I hope it comes out half has good has what you folks have done. Amazing!

A point of clarification some of us have bought our tartan hose, my Isle of Skye were knit by Diane at Russet Lodge Custom Knits, the Maple Leaf pair I found in the for sale section of the forum, and the diced pair I found at a local tartan shop.

I also bought mine, from the same member McMurdo bought his Maple Leaf hose from. I have no talent for sewing or knitting, I am afraid.

Well mine won't have a seam either. they'll be knit as a sock and not as a flat piece. the diamonds at the back just vary in size a wee bit (large at top, small at bottom)

Oh, so it could be done either way. Thanks for pointing that out.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Hey McMurdo, yeah I'm damn excited. ofcourse no idea whether they'll work out fine or not, because t is sorta a test for the knitter too, but if it works out the way she thinks it will it will be fantastic :P
Im very curious! she's a busy woman though so it might take a month or two..

Mark,
What is the tartan you are wearing? I'm a sucker for anything blue. I need to add that to my list, right after the US Navy (Edzell) and the 8 yard Anderson and the Polaris Military... Yes, I guess I'm suffering from (enjoying?) a common affliction.
