Like this with hose tops folded over the top...

Actually, those are based on the old US Army m-1940 cavalry boot. They were designed to be an easy on, easy off boot, and to eliminate the need for the Army Quartermaster to maintain a supply of boots for mounted troops with varying calf sizes.

I own several pair and they are great for trekking on horseback. They suck little flat rocks when it comes to walking, as there is little or no flexibility in the ankle/heel.

For my use a set-up like that on comfy boots I already own might work. It might even work as a separate piece. I had not thought of that ! I am a fair hand at leather, though not as good as some others who are real leather pros hereabouts.

I appreciate the logger boot suggestion too, Ron. Though the ones I have found so far are pretty serious heavy soles and arch reinforcements. It may be what I end up with though.

I had been considering making grieves that were just leather, and not armor.

I don't think it is a look I would do out and about though, unless it was a quick dash to the local (10 miles) hardware store or something.

Too bad I don't do a lot of hiking in snake country. Then I'd have an excuse to pick up a set of those.

That website is way dangerous. Lots of very cool items for sale.

I reckon that would work fine. I don't know how I missed those. I have been all over WPG's site, though have not purchased anything, yet...
