Excellent write up.
Instead of preaching tolerance, we need to celebrate diversity and acceptance. Let just accept that people are going to wear what they like.

I'll raise a dram (or five!) to that any day! Though I will say that I have been tremendously impressed by the 'signal-to-noise ratio', as someone put it, of the whole XMTS rabble! Honestly, this is the first message board I've been a part of and not hated two weeks later when every post I was even remotely interested in was covered up completely in 'trolls', 'flamers' and 'haters'! I'm certainly not insinuating that they don't exist here as I'm sure we've all seen them about. I'm simply saying that, on the whole, this board is a collection of Gentlemen (AND Ladies!) and I'd be proud to be in the company of any one of you! Now, where's that 'hats off to you' emoticon???

Well if your gonna have a rant you may as well have a good go at it and you certainly did. No arguments form this corner. Regards, Rob.

Well said.
I agree that it is difficult to express sarcasm and teasing and other such expressions that generally rely on the nuances of body language, and that we would all do well to assume that the best of intentions are at heart. Unfortunately I'm still working on this, and I feel the need to apologize for my occasional hot headedness.

Well said, well written.
God help us if we become like those newspaper anonymous postings.

What's the point of being rebellious, if you're going to insist that every one else conforms to your idea of what's rebellious? Isn't that a bit ironic?
WOW! I now know that there is someone else in the world who thinks the same as far as "conformity" goes. In my mind, a person is NOT a conformist if they are conformtable in their own words, deeds, actions AND clothes. I wear skulls on my shirt because I like skulls. Same thing with the kilt - I LIKE IT! Nice rant...couldn't have said it better myself.

Seeing as how I tend to avoid reading threads with the word "rant" in the title, I missed this the first time around, but...

I suppose if this is your idea of a rant, I may have to start paying closer attention.
Actually, I'm honored and a little humbled that you'd say so. It's very generous of you.
And really, that's what I try to be and would like to think that I succeed most of the time. Next time I'm heading back from Aiken, perhaps I'll swing by Columbia and you can judge for yourself.
Thanks for sharing all your other thoughts, too. I am generally in synch with that.
Regards,
Rex.
