Good to hear the pilot walked away. Planes can be replaced,...pilots can't.
I was fortunate when I learned to fly. My instructor was an old mountain pilot. Over the course of his mountain flying career he had crashed four times. He passed on those experiences and we spent a lot of time focusing on off field landings. The other students thought he was too hard. I was happy to have him work me hard. It made me a better pilot. I'm sure the other pilots on the board will agree, it's when things don't go according to the flight plan that you find out what kind of a pilot you really are.
