    I can see why you thought that it looked quilted. If I could have got a closer shot it would show the over and under. I couldn't cut too much deeper or I would break through to the porous area.

    I likey! What did you use to carve the basket weave? Where did you get the brass bolster?

    I used a dremel with a cone point bit and the brass bolster was from atlanta cutlery as I remember. I ground it flush with the oak piece and polished it to a luster. It's got a nice patina now after a few years at the Highland Games.
