Besides being a roofing term, "flashing" also is used here in the colonies to describe the act of doing a kilt check on one's self within clear view of another on purpose, whether one is wearing a kilt or not.

Someday, I will get some garter ties, along with a pair of bottle green Lewis hose, to go with my outfits. I've just stopped wearing any flashes on the elastic thing because I only have the tartan ones that came with my kilt.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
