It's cast in polyurethane, a durable plastic. Most of your collection of screwdrivers have polyurethane handles.

It is on the original movie Braveheart tartan, but I don't believe monkeys were present in medieval scotland (at least not in the movie), so shoots down your accuracy a bit. But still very cool. Wondering what a small skunk or weasel skull would look like in similar situation.
