Those are beautiful Sgians.

I'm sorry Howard - is the title to this thread "sgian dubh for fun?" Goodness gracious sir - what beautiful work! Once again I am bowled over by the talent of one of our members. Tip of the hat to you!

Howard, those are beautiful! Do you have a catalog that you work from, or is each a one off custom, depending on what is lying around and your mood?

No, no catalog. Everything I make is a one-off, though there are similarities between pieces often. I do not take orders for knives. I make them when I feel like it, and make what I want. I do take orders for sword blades. I've made a living making katana for the last eleven years, before that I have done pattern welded bar-stock for other makers, hunting knives, bowies, daggers, and fancy folders. Knives are something I do for fun now, since swords make the paycheck. I have not had a "real job" since 1988, and have made a living making knives, swords, and pattern welded bar stock for blade every since. Lots of them.
I have always like sgian dubh, and since I have been wearing the kilt for three years, more or less full time, it seems a natural to make more of them. I enjoy making things of metal. Blades have always been at the forefront of what I do, but I also dabble in jewelry, belt buckles, firearms, and accessories for all of the above. And have made all sorts of machine parts, and whole machines from time to time.
I find the kilt to be a most practical garment in the blacksmith shop. The work is done standing, and the kilt provides protection for everything that needs to be protected, whilst at the same time providing much better comfort and ventilation than trousers when the work environment is very hot.

If you want to see some of Howard's amazing work - here is a series of photos of my katana. Keep in mind the polish and mount were done by a professional, Keith Larman. I was not the first owner but I am probably the most proud owner!

All you have to do to see more of his work is to Google "howard clark blade"
I guess I have to put one of his Sgians on my wanted list now

Moon

Excellent work!
Really two beauties. Itīs especially the plain but exclusive look of the second one I like.
Cheers
