My answer to this one is to wear my XMTS tank a lot, and then say 'I'll be really surprised if you can name this one...' to anyone who reckons they're a tartan expert.

Aye Dan,
Sometimes the Clan tents are the worst. A few years back some twit at the Clan Donald tent told me I didn't have the right to wear Macdonald Lord of the Isles since that was reserved for The Lord of the Isle.
Used the mill annalogy - then someone should tell Lochcarron about that too.

Never had it happen to me personally, but I have overheard such at the local games...
I suppose if it happened to me I'd probably just shrug & give some remark such as:
"glad I got my sunglasses on because your brilliance is blinding"

I have not had anybody comment that I was wearing the wrong tartan, just that I was wearing the "wrong" tartan as I was wearing a Lindsay and that was not right. Something about what the Lindsay's had or had not done 200 + years ago! Like I had anything to do with that, or could change anything they did! Of course my direct ancestors were here in the Colonies at that time having arrived in 1748 as impressed soldiers.
I thought the whole deal was a bit surreal, especially since the guy had had one (or three) too many and was referring to me as a "murdering Lindsay". Very strange.......

Not disputed, but an auld fella sneered at my Black Watch kilt once, and said something unpleasant about Campbells.

Unfortunately, every clan and tartan has it's "baggage." And there are twits the world over looking for an excuse to take offense at imagined slights.
Of course, I take offense at such twits, so perhaps I'm not so noble as I think myself to be!
Resolved: I shall avoid, to the best of my ability, giving offense to any person. I will offer sincere apology to any soul that I inadvertently offend.
And I will offer blunt force trauma to any thick-witted lout who insists upon....
Hmmm... perhaps I should work a bit more on my resolution?

The only problem I have had (so far) is the Macleans of Duart insisting that the Maclaine's of Lochbuie are the same clan . . . . No further comment needed here.

As Mark Twain said" I hate dueling. Should anyone challenge me to a duel, I will take them gently by the hand and kindly and lovingly lead them to a quiet place and kill them".
