Kilt Review: Tewksbury Maple Leaf Tank

Awesome score! I love the maple leaf tartan and Barb's kilts are sublime. I happen to have a maple leaf tartan kilt and would love to find a pin like yours to match it.

Both kilt pins were purchassed off Ebay for about $5-10US give or take. I found them by searching for Maple leaf pin or leaf pin and then scouring the results for something interesting. I know someone else here posted a similar trimetal one right about the same time I got mine maybe two months ago, but I waited til I got my Maple Leaf kilt as I wanted to show them off in their proper place, Maple Leaf's on the Maple Leaf.

Sorry the tartan in your kilt came out skewed - whatever the reason/cause/cure....

Got an email last evening from Barb who reviewed the pictures again on my post and had spoken with Steve at Freedom kilts about his suggested method of fixing the skew. She is going to take the kilt back, rebaste it and try to get the skew out, or at least minimized. So back in the mails it goes to Barb for a while. My wife and I are not comfortable with super steaming it then pulling on it firmly enough to straighten the tartan for fear of ruining the kilt---if Barb does it she hopefully will have a better sense of how much force she can put on it, and if something pops who better to repair it than the maker herself.

I will keep you posted about my efforts to "unskew" the tartan in a finished kilt. And I now know how to get the "skew" out before I start!

And that is the most wonderful thing about this forum. We all learn from each other, and people are generous with their praise, their advice, and their help.

Have you found this problem in any of the other F&K remnant Maple Leaf pieces you're working with? Or in all of them?

And I'd love to hear the "get the skew out" secret. . . unless there's bloodletting and a secret handshake involved. . .

You need a secret squirrel decoder ring....no, just kidding. I'm away from home right now, but I'll check the other pieces and see if they have issues and let you know. And I'll post my success (or lack thereof) as I go along.

Understand this is a serious issue, and have no wish to make light of it. Happy to see the board pitch in to reach a resolution.

Just can't help but thinking its the perfect kilt to wear to a Tilted Kilt franchise....
