You might want to check out our Social Group "Men of Substance". We have a nice bunch of photos there that show just how good "Big Guys " can look in kilts.

I too am a "Man of Substance" and try to be aware of how I look when going out in public. The kilt, when worn properly, can have a slimming effect. I'm a 46 waist (47-48 if measured late in the day) and a fireplug shape. I try to keep my sporran higher up so as not to sit just below my belly. Yes, how you look is not so important, it IS how you feel when wearing the kilt.

ChubRock says it all, wear it proudly and you will get more looks of positivity than negativity. 5'9" and a biscuit short of 290.

I'm a larger guy, too.
I personally don't wear sporran chains because they cut into the apron right underneath my beer gut and make it look bigger. Instead, I got a pair of hangers that hook into my kilt belt and hang straight down, avoiding the "double bubble".
Dark colored shirts always have a slimming effect as well.
Above all, strut. Confidence makes all the difference in the world.

This guy hasn't figured out the secret...my beer belly is just "there" for the world to see and for kilts to slip under and even for shirt bottoms to "gap" open.
Have developed a habit of regularly pulling the front kilt waist up and freeing the sporran from wads of the front apron.
And "brassing it out" is the only way not to seem like a fat guy in a skirt...at least for me.

You know this might just be me, but I find a big guy in a kilt has a certain something about it. I remember when i was a kid there was this one I'd see walking around in the mall kilted, and easily 250 lbs (not tall) but he was really intimidating! I don't know, there's an effect.
Then again it could just be my childish imagination at work, haha.
It is slimming, but even more than that, i found wearing the kilt in itself makes you seem confident, lest you be a shrivelled up relic of a man. Confidence outweighs physical appearance any day of the week.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- you guys are the best. I can't thank all of you enough for the good advice given. I shall be kilted with pride.
I was telling my wife about all of this and how excited I am, and she said -- quote -- You've finally found your niche.
Yes, Indeed I have. Its not going to stop me from my quest to lose a few avoirdupois, but it sure makes me feel better along teh way.
Thanks guys
Tony
