I do not wear tartan ties I prefer solid wool ties, especially with the kilt, though the other day at the Scottish Tartan Museum I did see some really striking tweed ties, and may try one of those out.

In one or two occasions I wore a tarttan tie with a waiscoat in the same tartan under a black suit, it's not bad.

It looks so smart I think, but, I agree, not with a kilt....

I have several tartan neck-ties. I like to wear them with a nice solid-color shirt and slacks for church > work. (ties are being discouraged these days at work, "don't wash them much you know"). Have not considered trying to match a tartan tie with a kilt; don't think I ever would. Solid color ties sound best w the kilt, I have a RED solid color tie that goes well w my Black Stewart.

Due to my height I need extra long ties normally, and of course tartan ties are rarely if ever cut in extra long lengths. I do have several in tartans matching several of my kilts, and I do wear them, with the matching kilt, but only when I am wearing a waistcoat and jacket (Usually tweed), so the length is hidden anyway. The waistcoat helps keep the amount of tartan visible above my waist to a minimum, and breaks up the space between the tie and the kilt, so it really does not look particularly "over tartaned".

Then, when I throw on my tartan scarf and flatcap I am really cooking (sorry Jock, couldn't help myself).

I have several tartan ties that I will wear with a sportcoat and slacks, mostly on Sundays.

With my kilts I generally wear solid ties, striped ties, or with some pattern that tones well with the outfit, but not tartan.

I like tartan ties. I have quite a few that I wear to work, but not while kilted.

Tartan ties are a relatively inexpensive way of wearing various tartans to which I have some affiliation.

I prefer a solid wool tie ... but I will admit to having a strip of dark Red Robertson that will be sewn into a bow tie.

I prefer a solid or a regimental stripe with a kilt, but would like a tartan tie or two to wear when I'm in a regular business suit.
