    I did an Ancestry.com search and went back that far. I might be able to access the data base, if not my Mother-In-law has the info. Let me see what I can find..

    A = Black Stewart. Looks to be a synthetic, probably acrylic cloth.

    B = Kincardine tartan (Canadian district). I would assume wool, woven by Strathmore.

    C = Sinclair Hunting, ancient color scheme. Looks to be wool. I believe what you have here is some form of belted plaid (feilidh-mor).

    D = a sportkilt. They are calling it the Loch Ness tartan, though there is another tartan called the same thing woven by Lochcarron of Scotland. A fashion design.

    E = A sportkilt. Not sure of tartan, likely another fashion design.

    F = another Sportkilt. They are calling it the "Garrison" tartan, though you won't find that one in the National Register!

    G = the Hawaiian tartan (the inserts, that is). Another type of Sportkilt.

    H = A Sportkilt in the US Bicentennial tartan, aka US St. Andrews tartan.

    I = A Sportkilt in the MacQuarrie tartan, ancient colors

    J = Another sportkilt, unknown tartan, most likely a fashion design.

    K = Sportkilt, unknown fashion tartan

    The last photo in the album is of a Sinclair clansman's crest badge, traditionally worn in the cap.

    The majority of kilts you have here are Sportkilts which sell for under $50 generally. The two kilts that are most likely worth something are the Kincardine and the Sinclair, as these are actual woolen kilts.

    I would assume from the fact that he owned a Sinclair cap badge and that he chose to invest in an actual woolen Sinclair kilt, that he claimed descent from that clan.

    B = No idea

    C = Hunting Sinclair

    D = No idea. Trade sett with a different warp and weft

    F = No idea. Trade sett with a different warp and weft based on Royal Stewart

    G = Hawaii

    H = American Bi-centennial

    I = MacQuarrie

    K = This is MacInnes with a red stripe in place of the usual yellow on the black. Not known if this was sold as MacInnes

    You fellows are dolls..... I have found a few more maiden names.. Wishart and Dass... Are we barking up the right tree with clan Sinclair? Uncle Bill apparently thought so... I have spent all night on Ancestry.com and every single lineage has been on the Orkneys except for a few loners that were off to Shetland and then some very early ones that made it to England

    I do have a couple more kilts that I had put in the dry cleaning pile that are custom made and obliviously wool.. Can anyone tell us anything about Kilt C.. What is it used for for? It is more of a cape type thing???? Two tiers, unfinished hem and very heavy. If all else fails I will take it to the Highland Games and see if anyone has an idea.....

    That is a most interesting kollection. Thanks for posting. I would be interested in seeing the ones that you have sent for dry-cleaning, too.

    It would appear to be a great kilt with sewn-in pleats. The outside "layer" is brought up over your shoulder and pinned in place.

    If you need to find a good home for it, I have room in my closet.
