I must admit i do like those thistle made black ones, do you think they would look out of place with formal wear? As I dont really get on with normal shoe style brogues.

Traditional formal wear? Yes, totally out of place. A pair of polished cap toe oxfords would be much better.

Alternative formal wear? Maybe acceptable to a very fashion forward crowd if the rest of the outfit works with it... tread carefully there.

Yep thinking more contemporary style formal wear, might need to go some where and try them out.
