Suitable for a camping sgian dubh?

I don't wear a sgian dubh normally but I have a question.

Would a camping knife like this be suitable for use as a sgian dubh on a camping or hiking trip?

It's a really old knife and needs some lovemshown to it. I found it in a drawer in some antique furnature in the house.

Sgians dubh are NOT folders.

It might be useful to take it on a camping trip (and let's face it any knife is useful on a camping trip), and you could even put it in your sock, but it will NEVER be a sgian dubh.

In my opinion you may just be over thinking this a little.

Sorry Bren but I agree with David. You might put it in your hose but it won't be a sgian. It's a pocket knife. Look at it the other way if you put a sgian dubh in your pocket it's not a pocket knife it's still a sgian dubh.

I am aware that sgians are fixed blades.

I was wondering if anyone else might carry a folder down there on occasion. I never carry any knives so I'm a bit rusty on that point.

One point that is often forgotten about sgian dubhs is the shape. So often the sgian is exquisite, the workmanship is of the highest quality, using only the finest materials and it has a a provable historical vintage.

But, if you put in in your hose, the disaster begins. You take five paces and it slides down till it jams between your ankle bone and your shoe. The next pace trips you up and you spend the rest of the night hobbling round saying "Yes, Mr Dillon".

The only way you are going to know is to wear it for a day. If it sits happily under your garter, great. If it starts wandering round, it is trying to tell you that it belongs in your sporran.

Is"Yes Mr.Dillon a referral to Gunsmoke the old tv western.I just showed my age.I'm also off track. Good knife to take camping,but keep it in your pocket.
