I have never been convinced that the kilt was ever general attire worn by the Highland Scots in Scotland and is, in my view, one of the numerous myths that the tourist trade have spread over the last 150 years or so. However as I have said, these days the kilt is not worn by many Scots on a day to day basis, but give them a special occasion, such as a wedding, it is amazing just how many kilts appear out of the wood work! Make no mistake, whatever the truth of the kilt's history may be, it is not wise to try to tell a Scot that the kilt is not their National attire.
