Yup, I'm in Outagamie County, and they tried to pressure our county Govt to add to the kitty. The voters in this county said no and put the screws to the County Board to reject participation.

If this football team is located in Plymouth, Devon (down in the south-west of England), I don't know why people are thinking along the lines of the team having its own tartan.

Why don't the supporters wear non-tartan kilts in the club colours, like the Celtic FC supporters kilt I have recently acquired for my 'Kilt Kollection' (photo in my "X" Gallery)? Celtic ARE a Scottish club and COULD wear a tartan. After all, they've had their own for some years!

good point ham, but as you know, most people think the have to have permission to wear a tartan or have to be entitled to it,or even just justify thet right to wear a kilt.
"what right do you have to wear a kilt"?
well my great great granfathers mother was a macdonald so I can wear a macdonald kilt.
fact is there are dozens of macdonald tartans, and how do you know witch one is "yours"
    am I ranting again?.... sorry
fact is you dont need to have the right to wear a tartan, but it makes most people feel more secure knowing they have some sort of connection, no matter how slim.

    Ham,

The Plymouth Argyle fans seem to think that as the club colours are green and white, that they have the right to hijack anything that contains these colours and claim it as their own (such as the Devon County Flag - green, black and white). As you know Ham, the Devon Original Tartan contains green and white, as does the Cornish Hunting Tartan, so they are now arguing over which of these they can hijack and claim as their own. I doubt whether they would consider designing their own tartan/kilts when there are ready made ones available that they can hijack.

I am not in the least bit surprised that they try to hijack things that are green and white (because they always have), but what does surprise me is that they are even discussing the possibility of wearing (club?) kilts and seem to be reasonably knowledgeable about kilts and tartans. This aspect at least seems to be encouraging, as most football fanatics are not exactly noted for their brain power, or at least not the ones who get mentioned in newspapers.

One could argue that everyone at the top of their profession, whether it be sport or otherwise, brings home the big bucks. It's basic economics. Supply and demand.

I don't just sit on a couch all day. I am as active as I want to be. But I'm also marginally patriotic and support English/British individuals or teams who are representing their country. Anything wrong in that? :x

al, the concept of professional sports is no different than the gladatorial contests of Rome. imo, it's just absurd. I have friends that carry on as if if they had some part in how the team played but not one of em ever gets out and participates in their "favorite" sport. For me watching sports is as exciting as watching grass grow or paint dry. There is a benefit to not being a fan around here. On Packer Sundays we don't have to fight crowds if we go somewhere.

Actually, the things I get that involved in are things I'm doing myself. Participatory not passive. I'm just a hands on kinda guy.

The money is obscene, but I don't mind that as much as the "Hero" status that some afford to them. That is just disturbing. I like sport, but they are just people paid to play a game, not role models.

    Slainte,

    Tobie
