Anyone ever see a cummerbund with a kilt before?

In general you use the same conventions as you do with a tuxedo as you do with a Prince Charlie.
You would wear a cummerbund OR a vest. Not both.

The only time I have seen someone wearing a cummerbund with a kilt, they were trying to hide the effects of a "shrinking" kilt. Not a great look, particularly with a waistcoat. I clearly missed seeing this gentleman at the St. Andrew's Ball. I would have noticed.

It would hide the white shirt in the gap between a low cut or overly large kilt with a tendency to slide and the upper dark garments, if such was required.

I've seen them worn as an alternative to a waistcoat in warmer climes but, as Steve says, not both.

The cummerbund's function is, as Anne said, to avoid the white "gaposis" effect of your shirt beneath your coat. If you're wearing a waistcoat this won't be a problem. In general with a high-rise kilt it should really be a problem either. The gentleman in the picture above is wearing his cummerbund much too low to make any difference at all, and it just looks like a burgundy sash to me.

I don't care for it. To each their own.

    Not both, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Those of us looking at a modern low cut kilt purchase need to think hard at what their new kilt is going to be worn with. Alright crystal ball gazing is an inexact art and we may not have thought about waistcoats and the "dreaded gap" problem that can often(usually) occur with a low cut kilt. A cummerbund is absolutely NOT the way to solve the gap problem betwixt top of the kilt and bottom of the waistcoat. Better by far, if you must, would be to wear just a cummerbund above the kilt and forego the waistcoat . Just so you know, a cummerbund is not really kilt attire, but will do to rescue a situation, on ocassion.

I agree that it looks like a sash. Wonder if he was trying to match his flashes or hose or the jackets of the guard.
