I love those hose (or are they decorative cuffs?) Can I inquire where you got them?
They're House of Cheviot Bowmore, in the "Bracken" color, with mustard checks... reaaaaly cozy.
I got the last pair from Amazon (HERE is what they have left), but THIS website still has them.

This is great. Very much what I'd like to do. I'm just starting my research into how to do all of this so please excuse any stupid questions. I'm finding that most traditional kilts are predominantly half apron and half pleat while the contemporary ones are more ¹/³ apron and ²/³ pleated. I want a traditional cut with a contemporary fabric. Yours looks great.

Yes, the 1/2 apron is definitely wider around the front, and looks right with tartan; but I went with 1/3 apron for this one. My hip measurement is 44", the apron is 15" at the hip and 13" at the waist.
I don't know for sure, but I think the narrow aprons started to help with leaving room for cargo pockets on the Utility Kilts... I may add pockets, but I really like the straight sides this one has...
Wore it up to my folks place this weekend.., stopped off and played tourist at Alum Cove with my Darlin' Lass... Pardon the t-shirt, this was just comfy clothing!
note: with a kilt jacket (ebay wool sport coat, chopped and sewed), the "tactical" buckles are covered, and this thing can acually be dressed up a little!
That is a really nice job you did there. I attempted something along those lines a few years ago without doing any research. You have succeeded, I may have to try it again.
