A couple of times I have been to airports in a kilt. In order not to set off the alarm, I will wear my USA Kilts Casual which is closed by means of Velcro; and without a kilt pin, of course. Therefore no metal parts when the belt is removed.
The first time, at the airport of Düsseldorf, Germany I did, to my surprise, set off the alarm nevertheless - must have been the tiny buckles on my garters.
Well, no big problem, I had to stand on a little box (one they probably use for females wearing skirts) where after the security guy, without needing to raise my kilt made the check, using an electronic detector up and down my legs. Just a few seconds it took and seemed to be quite a routine.
Since I also remove my garters I have had no problems.
