    Purely as an observation might the "busy" look be less, if it was a larger sett?

    Yes indeed, I was looking at the miniature version, and hadn't clicked on it to get the larger image.

    I hadn't noticed all the fine lines. I think some simplification would strengthen the design, for example in the blue area.

    My favorite (box pleat) will look good in this tartan. Sometimes a budget brings unexpected treasures. I think you will be pleased.

    A couple thoughts:

    1. Is this coat of arms one that you are legitimately entitled to or a "bucket-shop special"?

    2. Designing a tartan based on coat armor doesn't usually result in a nice tartan. I'm sure others' opinion will differ.

    A final thought:

    Perhaps press the "pause button" on this. Spend the next year learning about heraldry and tartans and then pick it back up with a more informed sensibility.
