Thank you, a truly beautiful looking tartan? Where might I buy a kilt made from this?

I hope you enjoyed your stay in Camiguin
I too own a beige colored kilt, it's from 5.11 and you're right, its color is climate-appropriate

The fabric is available to be ordered through the XMarks "store" .... Contact Steve at steve@xmarksthescot.com. The fabric is stored in the Freedom Kilts shop, and you can have Steve make you a kilt out of it, or you can take the fabric to another kiltmaker -- your choice.

That tartan, as noted, is the tartan of this forum. As the owner of this forum (coincidentally, I'm sure) happens to own a kilt shop, I'm
fairly certain his arm could be gently twisted, resulting in a fine garment for you. Steve is careful to be fair with all his advertisers, so
he'll also tell you that one could be purchased elsewhere, or that you might purchase fabric from him and make your own. Were that to
be your desire, we here would recommend the purchase of The Art of Kiltmaking by Barbara Tewksbury, another wonderful kiltmaker and advertiser here. It would also be recommended that you consider attending Kilt Kamp, where you could learn from Steve and Barbara
things you might never figure out on your own. And meet others who are doing the same; some will have attended previously and are
repeating for fun and further learning.

In any event, enjoy your kilt.

Ah. A helpful Knome has typed faster than I.

There are tartans for various ethnicities, districts, US states, companies, regiments (not merely Scottish), other armed forces, and many things I've never thought of.

There's even a tartan for Arsenal (a London soccer team) although the only thing I've seen made in it was a dog collar! I'm sure that other soccer teams have their own tartan, as do many cities. I think London has two or three different tartans, despite being in England, albeit maybe only one of these is readily available.

There's a fair chance you belong to something that has its own tartan.

Consider the Chattahoochee tartan. I have in captivity the world's entire extant supply of it. I consider it the perfect tartan. It is a pattern with all the basic tartan colors. I captured it in the wild because I have a long association with the Chattahoochee region. Would be glad to share it. I have 26 meters of it.

Hunting Stewart was mentioned above. I have a kilt in the ancient colors. It makes a beautiful kilt. That being said, for shear beauty nothing can beat Holyrood Golden Jubilee. You'd probably have to order a special run of it.

No matter the climate I'd go with wool. The old 19th century army uniforms were wool and out of doors reasonably comfortable. Wool tartan is more porous than p/V and air circulates better through it. Perspiration evaporates faster through it. I do like a p/V kilt, though.

A Chattahoochee tartan really looks regal! How might I get a hold of it?

Since this is back to the top I thought I would take the opportunity to show you what the Scottish Wildcat Tartan looks like

    Katia,
The short answer, as Jock has implied, is that nobody in Scotland is much bothered about which tartan you wear.
Obviously, if you wear dress Maclean of Duart for example, and are not a Maclean then some Macleans may take you to task. It is therefore useful to have a "justification" for your choice such as "It belonged to my great uncle twice removed" even if the truth is "I liked it", "It was very cheap" ... and that philosophy must apply equally to district tartans.
This seems to me to pose the question "What does tartan really mean in this day and age? Indeed, "What did it ever really mean?" Apellations such as 'hunting', 'dress', 'dance', 'fashion', 'district' are all of relatively recent origin and have generally been promulgated for commercial gain. Added to this is the modern proliferation of tartans produced by computer software whereas, in my young day, it was quite possible to recognise the few dozen tartans then in existence. Of course, the Sobieski Stuarts, Wilsons of Bannockburn and others started this 200 odd years ago. But, does a sense of allegiance really mean that there can be a tartan for a university, a firm, a rare animal, a computer site for fans of Highland dress, to celebrate the Commonwealth Games and so on and on? Will we end up with people saying "That's a pretty tablecloth you're wearing today"? "Oh, it's 'Claret Shiel', 'Ancient Bogendreep', 'East Lochaber Tiddliwinks Association' ..."
    End of rant.
    Alan
