I'm sorry, but the conversation for the last page of this thread will not be tolerated on the forum. Unfortunately, the sentence quoted above is fundamentally flawed. Not ALL of the members agree with you on this DR. D. There are members of this forum that are homosexual. I have NEVER heard any of them make disparaging remarks about the heterosexual memebers of the forum, thought I have now seen several against them. They are valuable members of this online community, and do not need to be subjected to conversation like this.
I point out the last rule of the forum:

WHOOPS... I see how that could be read wrong. My most sincere apologies, I just got it. That is NOT what I was trying to imply. And now I feel like a heel. I was trying to express in that statement the one thing we all have in common as a lifestyle, and that is being kilted and nothing more. Honestly, I did not mean for it to come out sounding the way it did, and I offer my humble apologies to anybody that read that and got something from it that I never intended.
It's hard to express stuff online at times, I hope anybody offended will forgive me.

You have to hand it to Megan Haas though. She is one marketing genius. UK prides itself on never having had to pay for advertising. Megan and Steve don't need to. She goes out and gets them on another talk show or in front of another media event.
Yes, they go to every pride festival they can. Guys there buy their product. That's marketing, not statement. Who can argue with 24 seamstresses working 40/week and 700 kilts out the door a month.
My only worry is the question "Are UK's really kilts, or are they simply a marketing ploy that found a hungry customer base?"
I'll stay where I am for now. A small company trying to produce a quality product as a fair price. Eveytime someone tells me that I could cut my costs by farming the work out or going overseas, or they tell me to go get a big department store contract I politly say "No Thanks."
Ron, come on back to Canada, I'll put you and Zeytoun to work and together we'll make the best darn contemporary kilts the word has ever seen.

Let's not continue with this question, but rather, just accept that Utilikilts are Kilts. They are part of the evolution of Modern Kilts and They are for every one!!! I have 2 and they are worth every penny.

I don't think this is a safe place to have this discussion.
I've seen this can-of-worms opened on other forums (even pried the lid off of it a time or two myself) and it always ends in confusion, hurt feelings, anger and alienation.
This is a friendly group. Let's keep it friendly.
I moderate another group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kilture-sfba/
where we can duke it out toe-to-toe like true warriors.
Then we can come back here and relax as true friends.

I'm a little scared to add to this thread, but I'll take a chance....
I have a lot of gay customers. I have a lot of military and ex-military customers. What's the common thread? Balls. People who know themselves, know what they want, and are confident enough to get it. I think once you've faced up to telling your mom that you're gay, wearing a kilt pales by comparison! (I apologize in advance if there's any unintentional stereotyping in there.)
I recommend that when the "gay" question comes up, just tell them that you don't have to be gay to wear a kilt, you just have have as much balls as a gay man.
Enough of that! Regarding the "offshoring" question--is that what you really want? More American jobs going to Malasia (which, as near as I can tell, means "bad Asia")? Come on.
Peace,

Nice way to sidestep the attempt to get you up here to "The Great White North" Ron.

30 years ago men did not wear earrings.
25 years ago only "gay" men wore an earring.
20 years ago only "Gay" men and druggies wore earrings.
15 years ago "Straight" men could wear an earring in the left ear as "gay men wore then in the right, and it still implied that you were very "counter-culture"
10 years ago I was nearly fired from a job because I pierced my ear (I did it for a play I was in and then discovered that the ladies liked it alot).
Today 1 - 10 earrings in one or both ears is nothing that is noticed by anyone other than really conservative employers.
People are going to have sterotypes about kilts (UK, traditional, and other) no matter what. Wear what you feel comfortable in and forget them. Eventually people will come around.
Earlier I was trying to think of what I could wear if I was realy concerned about not wearing something that gay people wear. The only thing I could come up with is knickers (American definition for you Europeans - baggy knee length pants) and a t-shirt that says, "I'm not gay". I think that wardrobe would get old really quickly, as a result I'm going to wear what I like.

Peace,
Absolutely not!
When I select to buy a custom kilt, then I expect and am willing to pay for, the skills of a kiltmaker. Maybe the day will come when there is a mass-market for kilts that demand cheaply produced kilts. But, hopefully, there still be some kiltmakers around that put quality, and their hearts, into their products.
