Tim and Al visit the Detroit Highland Games. Towards the end of the show Tim throws a caber through the window of Al's restored station wagon. Tim is kilted throughout most of the show. It was the first time I thought of kilts as an alternative to pants. The rest, as they say, is history!

I would love to. It has always been a dream to go on an African safari. Unfortunately the closest I will get in the next few years is likely the safari hotel in DIsneyworld

Have a blast and let us know if you get any great photos.

    5. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?not just warm -- somewhere HOT !

James: If you're wanting to go somewhere HOT, let me recommend Phoenix, Arizona in late June. Just shortly before our monsoon season begins, it's not uncommon to "enjoy" temperatures from 110F (43.3C) to over 115F (46.1C). In fact, it was in late June 1990 when we had the highest tempurature ever recorded in Phoenix - 122F (50C)!!! They had to close the airport that day because commercial airliners weren't certified to fly at that temperature! We're in our 10th year of drought; our 105th consecutive day without rain. Come to the Valley of the Sun - Gateway to Hell!

Uhh... (dang it... "think then type", "think then type", "think then type")

Ok. So... for most of my working adult life, I worked in theatre. (Living in a cube farm with my hands glued to a keyboard all day is a new thing for me.) I started out as a general stagehand, of course, but quickly climbed up cause of my knowledge of audio gear and sound engineering (sound guys are harder to find than other stage-wights). After a short while, I learned alot and fell in love with lighting. I love playing with light and lighting gear and ESPECIALLY motion lights (a.k.a.: intelligent lights, automated luminaire, etc.). Nothing beats the power that can be felt at a lighting console. With just my finger tips, I control color, light, thousands of watts of power, the appearence of the stage, the very mood of everyone in the audience! {ian feels a surge of power in his belly!!} ggrrahhAHHAHH!!...

{sigh}... but I digress... where was I?... Oh.. yeah. So, somewhere in the middle of my career, I found myself as the LD for a magic company. The director of the show kept getting frustrated with the "talent". Stage illusions require the actors to be very technically skilled, not just pretty. He wanted a stage techie on the stage. So I got shoved on stage. He said I would be good at acting. I protested, yet soon found myself getting fitted for a black 100% spandex shirt, and my pate getting styled.

My friends (of the same ilk) knowing how shy and introverted I am, delighted in my discomfort. They would have never ousted me from the backstage culture; however, my lateral career move could not go unpunished. At a random gathering of us, one declared that I needed a stage name. I protested, yet found myself getting quickly branded with a stage name... AND a sub-title! The first words uttered stuck: "Ian Thrust, Ten Inches of Scottish Fury!" ...yes, it is a slight exaggeration.

A more family friendly moniker was dubbed as well: "Ian Thrust, Man of Peril!"

I was glad to see that I showed up twice in the credits: "Ian Wilson" for lighting and "Ian Thrust" for acting. In retrospect, I am surprised they used that stage name for a "family friendly" show!

    Aye, those were the days!

    -ian
