Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I've buried several over the years
Each one was as hard as the first.
Theres nothing like a dog in your life
They ask for so little and give so much.
My sincerest condolences for your loss

Very sad. Pets can become every bit as much a part of a family as children. It really hurts when they pass on. I like to think we can take comfort in good times we share with them.

P1M,
Our sincerest condolences to you and Emma. Perhaps Usgie's spirit will live on in the stray we adopted yesterday, who is a spitting image of a dog we lost 2 years ago. They fill our lives and when they are gone our lives feel so empty.

Condolences to you all, Robertson. The memories of the fun and frolics will eventually overcome the pain you're feeling right now.
We lost our beloved Black Lab Annie two years ago. I didnt think I'd ever recover. I still tear up occasionally, but the happy memories of her 14 years with us have finally beaten the sadness. I weeded out her grave site last week and caught her up on the latest news and actually didn't cry.
The pain will fade, but the good memories will endure.

My condolences Robertson. It's never easy to see them go, and it's never an easy decision to make. He'll be missed until you see him again, but you will see him again.
He was gash and faithfu' tyke
as ever lap a sleugh or dike,
His honest, sonsie, baws'nt face,
aye gat him friend in ilka place.
