I finally received the saltire kilt and Argyle jacket that I ordered in January. The saltire is part of the woven pattern, but not part of the plaid itself. I think the above assumption is correct that the change in sizes occur in the pleats behind the apron.

It's a lovely looking kilt, but I think I'd have to have been born in Scotland to wear it. Look at this outfit. As a Canadian, on my list of kilts to buy, is Pete MacHummel's Maple Leaf.
I'll take a look at this kilt when I'm over to this store in the next little while. I need a couple of chanter reeds, anyway.

I'm looking but can't find it. Does anyone remember which mill weaves the Saltire Tartan?

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

http://www.mytartan.com simply says:
Your Saltire Tartan Kilt will be made the traditional way, from a full eight yards of the finest pure new wool Saltire Tartan, woven and Made in Scotland to the exclusive patented specification.
But it's off-the-rack, which implies that the earlier speculation was right, and the pleats, at least in back, are standard width.

The Saltire Kilt is a good example of the artistry of a custom kiltmaker.
In the pics here I count between 22 and 26 pleats. They appear to be about 1" reveal. But you will notice the white pattern seems to be only 3/4" wide. That gives in excess of .25" to play with the pleat width.
26 X .25" = 6.5" That's a good amount of play with the hip measurement. Then you can always add of subtract a couple of pleats by using the fabric on either side of the white pattern.
Now, I've never had a piece of the Tartan in my hand so I'm guessing, but I see no reason why a fully custom kilt of almost any size could not be made from this Tartan.

here's a pic of one of my kilts, I like it, and it's a heartwarming sight seeing it blowing in the wind on the washing line, almost like coming home http://www.thescotlandkiltcompany.co...ilt-p-305.html

Wow, that is a great looking tartan. Blue is my favorite color and this kilt has awesome shades of blue. It looks to formal.

I think it looks formal because of the other garments they've got it paired with. I saw a guy at the Prescott games wearing one with a T-shirt, and it looked fine.
