This year was the X Marks kilt pin and advance notice of the kilts we planned to wear.
I thought the Mesa games went well when we had a rendezvous point and time.

This year was the X Marks kilt pin
Which is all well and good if you have an X Marks kilt pin. The good part about using a ribbon is that it's cheap, easy, and can be displayed prominently, whereas walking around looking for kilt pins can be more difficult, and looking for a specific tartan is also iffy, especially if the tartan is really popular.

You're right for sure. That's probably why I missed everyone at Flagstaff in 2006
