I found it: the name not the pictures. They are called Pteruges. From what I can figure from several different sorces, they were thick leather strips that hung in a skirt-like way from the bottem of the chest plate to mid thigh. The painting I saw was probably combining all kinds of things that may not have ever been used together.
This is the problem I'm having. My tastes in men's skirt-like clothing is strongly influenced by styolized drawings and paintings I saw as a kid. Not that I haven't seen actual photos of kilts, but I have all these other pictures in my mind. On top of that, I keep hearing that Zack Wilds wears "one of them Roman kilts," Roman kilts?

I like a nice French braid when I can find someone to do it. Think it gives a bit of a Viking look...though no clue if the Vikings wore French braids.

Have had long hair for a long time...always fun to let ladies play in it and braid it to their fancy...

I've had long hair on and off sense the early eighties. Partly it was the heavy metal hair thing, but the people I grew up with, excluding my father, had a cultural long hair thing going on. Some of those guys never had a hair cut in their life and their parents would have killed them if they did. Mine isn't terribley long now, but it will get there. That will be interesting with a kilt.

In jr high this one guy, he was Pueblo, had hair like down to his knees: front and back. His wife had the same length and black hair. Infact they had pretty much the same body shape and everybody was always saying you couldn't tell them apart from the back. As far as I know, they're still the same, but they probably hav longer hair, te he, and their kids have long hair too.

I got long hair, it goes great with the kilt. It makes it more manly!

I don't know about that. I have long hair too, I think this is why I don't get the kilt checks!
