Alan, you merely need to resort to that tried-and-true method of holding fabrics in place temporarily - basting! Better than pins in situations like this.

I've never understood this. Won't it just make the pleats soggy?
But the crispy skin after roasting is worth the extra effort!

Should I baste just the pleats - or the whole kilt and the wearer of it? It's getting close to fitting time...

Now there's your first mistake. You showed F-H.C.A.G. how to make an X-Kilt, now learn from her and get sloshed before making the damn kilt. The pleats will look fine .
Dee, if you could see me now, you would see that I am ever so gently shaking my head from side to side.
The fell is 8 inches. All the other pleats have lined up acceptably...not PERFECTLY, but quite acceptably. This one refuses. How can two stripes in a pleat be lines up just fine, but the one that's higher up be a full 1/4 inch off?
*snarl*
No biggie. I only have to hand-sew maybe all of about 9 inches of pleats. Not a big deal. But I reserve the right to be annoyed about it.
