Hay Rock Springs is not London but it is a lot bigger Than Coalville, Ut. We do have at least one Bar and three gas stations.
The thrifty's from SWK are OK if you sew down the pleats about 7 to 8 inches. If you can wait and save you will like the standard but your will Love the heavy weight. Just make sure you get some heavy wool socks (Hamilton Dry Goods, ask about the Merino wool,http://www.hamiltondrygoods.com/sock.html ) and your feet will not get cold.

Hey the more welcomes from people around here the better. It'll be even better if I find some people I've talked to before wearing Kilts when I do get down there for some event or other.
Guess Stillwater will be the way to go but it does make me curious if anyone would change their opinion if I could save up 150 dollar.

Kilts are like most things in that you get what you pay for. Stillwater provides a great product for the price, but you can get better products at a higher price. My advice is to get the best kilt you can afford. Even if you decide to go with Stillwater, choose the best model you can afford.

Here is my recomendation for a starter kilt outfit (assuming Stillwater's standard 24" length works for you)
Stillwater Heavyweight kilt ($125-150)
Matching Flashes ($5-6)
Buzz Kidder Sporran ($55-60) several models available through Stillwater, USA KILTS, and the Scotish Tartans Museum
Belt ($20) Pickup a 2" wide heavy unfinished leather belt from your local Home Depot, Lowes, or other hardware store and dye it black or brown. Leather dye available at your local cobbler.
Sporran Strap ($10) From Stillwater or buy a thin plain ladies belt at a thrift store.
Hose ($10-20) Various sources
Your belt, sporran, sporran belt, and shoes should all be the same color.
The Buzz Kidder sporran will last you many years and its quality and size will please you when cheaper alternatives will have either fallen apart or been discarded.
The Stillwater Heavyweights are handsome and well made, they are not a handsewn kilt so don't expect that, but they are a very good value.
Hope this was of help
Cheers

Wow, out of a budget of $150 you managed to only spend $266 leaving Noob $116 in his wallet (assuming that he doesn't need to actually have a roof over his head next month )
Yes one must also consider the accessories. Some have had success with cheaper stuff on ebay, but generally you get what you pay for. All the cheap crap that I bought first starting out a year ago has since been replaced with better quality stuff and several more kilts (I have the great fortune to kilt night with two kilt makers, well more accurately they have the great fortune - mine ).
Jamie does SWK not offer custom length in the standard line albeit in a much, much longer wait than 2 days?
