Mattia,
Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts U.S.A.
My first call would be to ask the wedding partners if they have a preference of tartan. Second is to then work on the kit. Be sure to measure VERY carefully. As soon as you get your kilt -WEAR IT! Become familiar with how to put it all on, then how to sweep and sit, arising and settling the pleats. Practice wearing it so as to be fully comfortable in it. The kilt should soon be a very comfortable way to be. Most of us on X-Marks try to stay kilted as much as possible. My avatar is the way I dress for church every Sunday here in the U.S.. The kilt is making a grand surge in popularity here.
Enjoy ye Rabble

If you are in the wedding party itslef...if you are the best man, for example, the Groom MAY specify that the men in the party all wear the same tartan.
He does not HAVE to do that, but he might. So before buying a kilt, find out if your friend wants to have all the men in the same tartan.
If he does not, then here is a very short list of beautiful tartans that anyone can wear without even a ghost of a chance of bothering anyone with Clan affiliations. Mind you, this is a SHORT list.
Caledonia
Flower of Scotland
Scottish National (one of my favorites)
Pride of Scotland
Spirit of Scotland
Warrior
Jacobite
Highland Granite (all dark grey and black, very striking)
Cladish
Isle of Skye (very popular, and beautiful...http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/i...highlight=Skye)
Scottish Odyssey (can see here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/b...x.html?t=29042
and my personal favorite
Holyrood
And of course you can wear
Black Watch
Royal Stewart
seeing as both of those tartans are SO common that you can buy flannel shirts in the tartans at nearly any Mens Store on both sides of the Atlantic.
Also
Black Stewart...and grey and blue and green
Hunting Stewart
The list goes on and on and on.

I suggest checking the "Show us your pics" section and look at the formal outfits. That should give you some idea of the range of options available. All best and welcome.

from Edinburgh. Plenty of advice here and don't think I can add anything. If you are hiring the shop will keep you right as to how to wear everything. If you are buying your own then you will find everything you need to know here and if you don't - just ask us.

Good morning.
I am getting some news from the groom and the brides's family about the tartan... but I do not want to ask them too many question. I would like to prepare myself in the best way. I could never imagine that a forum could be so helpful!!!
I wrote many points on which I need assistence to show up in my first kilt, so I start with a new question:
I read abou knife and box pleated kilt, now I know the difference, but which one is more elegant, which one I should make to match with prince chalie jacket?
THANKS IN ADVANCE
I ask to the moderators:
May I continue posting question on this thread or should I open new ones?

If the wedding is in Scotland everyone will be wearing a knife pleated kilt. The only variation will be whether it is pleated to the sett (most usual) or the line (mainly military style)
