    from both southern US coasts!

Got to say no to the plaid...but if you can get away with it, perhaps some tartan socks?

Hello and welcome from Houston, TX! My suggestion is to wear a tartan bow tie and matching cummerbund, but no plaid. BTW, I know a couple of unrelated Menteiths here in Houston.

I once saw a neat idea done at a wedding that I thought went very well.

The Groom wore, as a fly plaid, what was essentially two long Tartan scarves.

At the end of the ceremony he unclipped one of the scarves and draped it over the shoulder of his new bride.

Sort of like "Welcome to my clan".

If the groom wears the two scarves over his left shoulder just as you would a fly plaid and fastens them with two separate pins, he can easily un-pin one and drape it over the right shoulder of the bride and fasten it with the pin.

Then when they walk down the aisle the flash of Tartan is very striking.

I think you should be able to find two Tartan scarves fairly cheaply. And the scarves are smaller than a full fly plaid and should look pretty good with a Tux.
